Okay, so we didn't tiptoe through the tulips, but we did tiptoe and laugh through the beautiful Sycamore Hill Gardens one summer afternoon. I titled the post tiptoe because as I was going through the images, I was reminded of when I was a child and my father used to watch a variety show called Roland & Martin Laugh In. One night, way back when, Tiny Tim was a guest and he sang a song called "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" with a ukulele. For some reason that memory popped into my head as I looking through the gallery and now I can't stop thinking about it. You have to check it out. It's a riot.
Anyway, back to Lauren and Jimmy! We indeed laughed the whole time while discovering the gardens. We were amazed at all the sculptures hidden here and there. However, the one we found in the middle of the maze made us pause. Lauren and Jimmy, you know which one I am talking about! We just stood there looking at it, not quite sure what to make of it. I think I might have even dropped my camera.
Well, I look forward to photographing your beautiful wedding in 2012! Thank you for a great afternoon.
Last season a new florist emerged and it was in my own backyard! Skaneateles Town Square is our local Ace Hardware store and it's massive! It has everything anyone could possibly need for their home and garden and now weddings! I hope to see more of their flowers at his season's weddings!
Good luck Town Square. You are off to a great start!
The day of Jennifer and Derek's wedding could not have been more perfect, and I could not have asked for more beautiful day to photograph a wedding. Surrounded by close friends and family, Jennifer and Derek exchanged their vows on September 11th overlooking Skaneateles Lake at Anyela's Vineyards. Beautifully staged by Kate Lemos Brown of Lovewell Design, Anyela's was breathtaking as you walked in. From the flowers by Folls Flower Farm, to the tiny pumpkins that served the soup in one of the four incredible courses served by Pure Catering, the whole scene was a joy to photograph. Just amazing and lots of fun.
Once again, thank you Jennifer and Derek for letting me capture this amazing day in September!
On a simply gorgeous July afternoon, Bethany and Parker exchanged vows in front of their friends and family at Anyela's Vineyards.
Thank you Tom for bringing that beautiful Cadillac. I was besides myself when Bethany told me you were bringing it! Can I have it?
Bethany & Parker, thank you so very much!
Lauren and Michael tied the knot in front of family and friends on April 17th at The Lodge here in Skaneateles. Once again, I had a great time with a very playful bride and groom, props and all. Thank you to Backyard Garden for a beautiful bouquet to photograph, and most of all The Patisserie for the coolest cake I have ever seen. Lauren and Michael have two dogs that they left behind in Michigan with a friend but made their presence as the cake topper. It was sweet!
Here's a quick peek at a few from a fun wedding!
Thank you Lauren & Michael.
What a riot.
Kristy and Jason exchanged vows here in Skaneateles on a beautiful October day . I started the day with the boys and then headed to Kristy's parent's house where all the girls were getting ready. This was very cool for me since I have known Kristy since she was about 11 years old. I remember when her family moved in across the street from us. Time flies, and I was so happy when she and Jason asked me to capture their wedding. After the ceremony we walked through the Village to the lake for some photos and then hopped on a boat to the Skaneateles Country Club where all their guests were waiting for them to arrive and start the party.
That they did.
Thank you Kristy and Jason.
What a fun day and evening I had with you and your families!
Well, it's been a little crazy in my life between weddings, portraits and my daughter's high school graduation this past weekend that I haven't really been able to post anything. And since I have not had the chance to edit any of the sessions I have shot the past week or finish a wedding from June I thought I might do a quick one about flowers and the florists I have worked with over the years. Come Wednesday when everything calms down and family has flown away, I can get back to the grind and really focus. Anyhoo, I have had the opportunity to photograph some of the most fabulous florists in the Syracuse area the past 4 years starting with Folls Flower Farm. When I shot my very first solo wedding back in 2005 I just fell in love with the bride's flowers. They were simple and so easy going. Everywhere I turned I smiled at the little bouquets and table pieces. After the wedding I designed a very neat mini portfolio featuring the flowers from that first wedding and went up to Folls Flower Farm to meet the owner and introduce myself. I was floored at what I saw. It is an actual flower farm with rows of flowers for brides to come look at and see what is in bloom at the time of their wedding. I met Thea and all I can say is that she is a flowerchild. She's laid back, loves her flowers and loves what she does.
Here is a sample of her work from a couple of weddings I shot with her flowers.
The next florist I love working with is Whistlestop in Manlius. Okay, Nan's designs and arrangements are just stunning and over the top. The detail in their flowers is unbelievable and I am always in awe when I see them. Again, I introduced myself to Nan and Kim after I shot an incredible wedding back in 2006 where they were the florist. Everytime I turned around there was something floral and beautiful. Sweet is what I always say when I see Nan and her crew show up at the wedding because there is just so much to capture and there is always a surprise at every corner. I can go nuts with their flowers.
Here are a few from Whistlestop.
Next on my little tour is Fleur de Lis here in Skaneateles. Sandy just has colors nailed and her flowers are just so rich looking. Like little jewels with amazing colors and textures. I am always amazed at what she has put in the bouquets because they look so cool. I love Sandy's fall bouquets and they always seem to match the bride perfectly. Just take a look. They are beautiful and all you want to do is just touch them!
A florist I have just recently become acquainted with is Nino from Backyard Garden. Sweet, sweet flowers. From a very simple March wedding with tulips and peonies to an amazing blast of colors for a May wedding. The flowers from the March wedding looked like candy and were just lovely. As we all know, March in Central New York is pretty dreary and gray. Nino made the day come alive with these beautiful flowers. Made you forget the gray of the March landscape.
So, these are some of the florists I have worked with and love to photograph. I am looking forward to working with them again this wedding season and hope to discover more great artists this year and the years to come. Thank you all for creating such beautiful works of art for us photographers who love capturing these beautiful gems!
Round two of Memorial Day weekend was Lindsay & Matthew's wedding on Saturday at Le Moyne College with the reception following at The Lodge at Welch Allyn. Starting with guys at the The Sherwood Inn for a few shots, I then went on to meet the girls at the Finger Lakes Lodging where they all were getting ready. The ceremony was in the coolest chapel where the alter was in the middle and everyone circled the couple. It really was a neat thing. The other great surprise was Lindsay and Matthew's golden retriever Mia was the "flower girl" with her own little bouquet. It was a riot! After the ceremony and photos by Skaneateles Lake we all went to reception where everyone was blown away by the absolutely fabulous band from Rochester called Brass Taxi. These guys just rocked the house and had everyone on the floor. The other little surprise was that Lindsay's parents could not find just the right song for the father/daughter dance so they actually wrote one especially for her! Lindsay's mom sang and recorded it so the band could then play the tape at the reception when it was time for the dance. Everyone was in tears and led to some incredibly moving moments. You'll have to wait for the gallery to go up to see those. It was beyond moving...
What a fun wedding and I was so glad to be there to capture it! Thank you Lindsay and Matthew! Here are a few "peek a boos"!
